Sunday saw the start of the Keyline/Wavin Winter League with 11 members attending the draw at 8.30am for the 1st leg of the eight leg series.
After heavy rain on Saturday afternoon the opinion was that the fishing would be tough. The points system used is that only the top five weights in all matches score points from 5 to 1.
The match began with the all in at 9.30am with a strong south easterly wind and sunny periods for most of the match.
After five hours it was a very close affair in the end with only seven ounces separating the top five point’s places.
Dave Appleyard, on peg 24 fishing the pole, weighed in with 1lb 15 oz to take the match, in second place was Jim Hewson, fishing feeder from peg 14 with a weight of 1lb 14oz, Stuart Cash took third place with 1lb 11oz from peg 23, Neil Bridgewater fishing peg 14 came fourth with 1lb 10oz and Ted Goulsbra, on peg 6, took the final point with a weight of 1lb 8oz.
The second match in the Winter League will be on November 17. Draw, 8.30am, fish: 9.30am-2.30pm, match fee £5.
