Market Rasen Golf Club

JUNE at Market Rasen Golf Club started with the Seniors Championship - a gross competition which finished with three players all on 79.

After count-back, the winner was County Seniors Captain, Les Brumpton, followed by Phil Clifford second and Lou McCarthy third. The nett prize was won by Ray Joyce with 71.

* The following weekend the club hosted Burgzievel Golf Club from Germany on what has become an annual event organised by Les Brumpton.

The visitors and their hosts enjoyed a very pleasant weekend and the match resulted in a resounding win for the hosts 11 - 1. Just to confirm how fortunes can change quickly in golf, Les was very diplomatic to be the only player to lose his match!

* One of the few competitions solely for higher handicap golfers is the Young Cup limited to 19 handicap and over. This, too, was keenly contested and was won by David Prudhoe (28) with a nett 65 who pipped John Day (20) on count-back.

Another improving junior, Alex McKitton who plays off 22, finished third on 66.

* One of the club's Stableford Competitions attracted 104 players competing for the Torrens Bowl. The hot, dry conditions found the course in excellent order which produced some good scores.

Playing one of his few competitions, Duncan Gerrard finished first with 43 points. Runner-up was Richard Everett with 41 points who beat 5 handicapper John Cann on count-back.
