Market Rasen’s Sunday XI welcomed Old Lincolnians to Rase Park for a Division Two league game.

Batting first, Old Lincolnians ensured the spirit of cricket was decidedly lacking as they attacked the young Rasen bowling line-up without remorse.

In-form Dave Mason and talented youngster Connor Janney opened the bowling against Darren Chester and Matt Murray who produced some huge shots and put on a significant first wicket stand of 151.

Their partnership contained 12 fours and 11 sixes before the Old Lincolnians batsmen were eventually felled by Janney with assistance from Adam Cook.

Janney and Emma Drayton took three wickets apiece in a well-measured performance in a difficult game for the young side.

The visitors amassed 424 from their 40 overs and Rasen faced an uphill task to chase down the large total.

There were admirable stands from Dave Mason, Jacob Bennett and Connor Janney who capped a good all-round day with 15 runs.

Ending their chase on 102 all out from 25 overs, the Rasen side will ensure they take the positives from a testing game.

Rasen’s Sunday XI will have to wait an extra week to bounce back as they are without a fixture this weekend.
