Market Rasen Ladies XI gave the club something to celebrate last weekend as they were crowned Lincolnshire Women’s Cricket League champions.
Coming off the back of a tremendous win against Long Sutton in late August, Rasen had the momentum entering this final game of the season, knowing victory at home to Spalding CC would give them the title.
Winning the toss, Rasen elected to bat first and this looked to be a wise choice as Beth Smith led the way, top scoring with 76 as the home side amassed 142-6 inside their allotted overs.
Rasen acquitted themselves brilliantly in the field as Spalding replied.
Tight bowling, spearheaded by Caitlyn Phillips, Megan Quinlan and Alison Ramsey, ensured the away side could only manage 92-9 from their allotted overs.
Having finished fourth last season, the team have shown brilliant drive and effort this campaign with several notable performances from home-grown players.
Smith finished with a brilliant season average of 50.8, which included a brilliant unbeaten 107 at Spalding in July, while Beck Brooker boasted a batting average of 55.6, both helping Rasen become such a strong force.
The Market Rasen side are also helped by having enviable depth to the team, bolstered by several Lincolnshire CCC junior representatives.
Congratulations to the team from all those involved at Market Rasen CC and AFC.
