St John Ambulance is offering one last chance for people to join its heroic team of runners who’ll be taking part in this year’s Virgin Money London Marathon to support the vital work of the nation’s leading first aid charity.
The charity is on the hunt for runners willing to fundraise on its behalf - but time is running out as the deadline to join the St John Ambulance fundraising team is January 31.
‘We’d love to hear from any runners who failed to secure a place in the ballot or from those who have a place but haven’t yet chosen a charity to support,” said fundraising events manager Sabina Pasokhy.
‘Our first aiders help thousands of runners cross the finish line each year. Fundraising for us is a great way for runners to take part in one of the world’s greatest public sporting events while supporting the work of volunteers who help to keep everyone safe on the day.’
Nearly 200 runners from all over the country will be taking part in the big event on April 26 as part of the St John Ambulance fundraising team and more than 1,000 SJA volunteers from all over the country will be on duty on marathon day, with approximately one volunteer for every 35 metres of the 26.2 mile course.
All runners fundraising for SJA are supported by a dedicated marathon co-ordinator in the lead-up to the event.
They receive an SJA running vest, advice on nutrition, fundraising as they prepare for the big day.
And on race day they will be boosted by an official SJA cheering point and are VIP guests at a post-race reception at the Carlton House Terrace.
