Horses for courses at Friday's races

FRIDAY'S races will continue as an all-hurdle card after the return of steeplchases was delayed - by a lack of rain.

Managers at Market Rasen Races were hoping that re-seeded areas would have sprung new lush grass where drainage work has been carried out so that the main course could be drafted back into action.

There have been two meetings over hurdles to allow for essential drainage work, which began at the end of April.

Clerk of the course Nick Patton said: “The drainage work has been successful, but some of the areas have not seeded as well as we hoped. We want to be more than 100 per cent happy with our racing surface and the extra time will allow us to carry out extra irrigation on the affected area.

It’s now hoped to restore steeplechases to Market Rasen’s race card on Sunday 5 July.

Friday remains a seven race card with the first race due off at 2.10pm.
