Sir Note races to winning treble

Pouring rain and a temperature six degrees lower than on Boxing Day meant a small crowd for last Wednesday's meeting at Market Rasen.

The day’s feature chase was the 32 Red Handicap and it proved to be run in ideal conditions for the front-running Sir Note (3/1f) ridden by Jack Quinlan and trained by James Eustace.

The victory made it a hat-trick of wins for the six-year-old and five wins in the last seven races.

Connections thought a return to Market Rasen in July for the Summer Plate would not be on as the horse is more suited to the two mile furlong distance, over which he won this race, than the much longer Plate.

The Class 4 Handicap Chase was won equally impressively by French Seventyfive (3/1), trained by Keith Reveley and ridden by Emma Todd.

The nine-year-old is inexperienced as a chaser and made an impressive late run under the 7lb-claiming jockey to overhaul Big Sound (3/1) on the run in.

Michael Chapman brought Tayarat across the Willingham Road from his Woodlands stables, but Graham Carson had to pull him up halfway round when he tailed off.

Odds-on favourite Lettheriverrundry (2/1) won the opening novices hurdle, easing up with a comfortable 12 lengths to spare.

But there was a close finish in the second race as Midtech Valentine (4/1), under Champion jockey Richard Johnson, was just pipped by half-a-length by the fast finishing Miss Estela (5/2f) under Gavin Sheehan.

Warren Greatrex has his yard at Upper Lamburn in fine form at the moment, but this one was out of sorts when sent over to Punchestown last time out.

Grey Monk (8/1) was the best priced winner on the afternoon. After a string of unplaced efforts since a win in a Worcester Seller last September, trainer Sara Ender tried the winner in a visor for the first time here.
