Body And Soul wins at Newbury, 14-07-12.

DESCRIBING it as the biggest win of his career by a country mile, Market Rasen jockey Duran Fentiman was delighted as he took the big prize of the day in the five furlong Weatherby’s Super Sprint at Newbury on Saturday.

Riding for Malton trainer Tim Easterby, Fentiman was on board 9/2 favourite Body And Soul as she got up by a neck in the £180,000 Newbury showpiece.

The £7,500 purchase went to post the 9-2 favourite following victories at Ripon and Thirsk and quickened up smartly to lead towards the near side.

Her main dangers were Satsuma on the other side of the track and the fast-finishing Momalorka down the centre, but Body And Soul held on to claim the winning prize of £122,925.

Fentiman said: “I knew I would be riding her after she won at Thirsk.

“The trainer had told me to get myself down to 7st 12lb and get ready for this race. I went on a strict diet to make the weight which was hard work.”

Jockeys normally get just above seven per cent of winning prizemoney and Fentiman was delighted.

He added: “The win will pay a few bills.”

Fentiman earned high praise from Easterby at the course, the trainer reportedly claiming, “Duran nicked it-he rode a cracking race.”

The horse is now expected to go for the Doncaster Sales race at York next month and she won’t run until then.

“Fingers crossed I will have that ride on her,” said Fentiman.

The win continued a good start to July for the former De Aston student, who now has 15 winners to his name since the turf season started back in March.

At Ripon last Monday he was on board Penny Garcia, another Easterby horse, who got up by a nose in an even tighter finish.

A week earlier 11-1 shot Mr. Snoozy, trained by Tim Walford, had got the wake up call from Fentiman at Pontefact and responded, getting up by a length.
