Coleman is mustard on the Rasen course

The three wins came in spectacular style and in consecutive races.

Coleman was runner up to Richard Johnson in the jockey’s championship for the season just ended and will doubtless have his sights set on overtaking his rival at the top of the order come next April.

Coleman’s first win came in the 2 mile 7f handicap hurdle.

Johnson and he clashed in an exciting finish with Johnson on Good Measure looking the likely winner as they jumped the final flight.

Then Coleman got to work on Kelvingrove (12/1) to find that little bit extra.

The six year old trained by Jonjo O’Neill, had been off the track for 10 months.

Marju’s Quest (8/1) made it a double for Coleman in the next race a 2 mile ½ furlong handicap chase.

The day’s feature race was the Racing UK.com Handicap Chase over a distance just short of three miles.

Coleman was on No No Mac (8/1) and the horse said ‘yes, yes, yes’ as he made all in impressive style, leading from start to finish and jumping fluently.

The opening race, a novice hurdle, was won by Penn Lane (6/4f) for trainer Warren Greatrex and jockey Gavin Sheehan.

He proved resolute enough after the final flight to gain his first win over the smaller obstacles.

Only four went to post in the second race, a Class 4 hurdle which proved to be a dual between joint 7/4 favourites Closest Friend, trained by the inform yard of Dan Skelton and Mystic Sky.

The latter got collared here last time out going clear before getting caught close home.

This time the mare made a mistake when in front at the last but Jack Sherwood stayed on board and won on the run in.

Market Rasen trainer Michael Chapman saddled Dark Diamond who was a distant fourth, but picked up some minor prize money.

Sirius Star (16/) won the next race, a Class 4 handicap Chase with Jamie Hamilton up.

Held up early the winner made his move in the home straight but then hit the last before going on to win his first race under rules.

Michael Chapman’s The Society Man has run some decent races in the past but his recent form is less good and he was pulled up when trailing.

The most impressive win on the day came in the bumper at the end of the card where Happy Hollow (7/4f) completed a classy hat trick of wins.

He will surely go on to bigger and better things.

Here under Paul Maloney it was clear, be it over hurdles or on the flat, that a decent horse could be in the making.
