Rasen golf round up

THERE have been two men’s competitions in the last fortnight at Market Rasen and District Golf Club.

The Topliss Cup attracted a strong field and was played in cold conditions, with Tom Hall realising some of his potential by winning the Cup with a nett 65 off 13 handicap.

Adrian Bothamley made sure that our young players did not have it all their own way though, by recording a nett 68 off 15 handicap whilst Stuart Honey (13) just pipped Bob Davison on count-back for third place with a nett 69.

The best nett prize for those with a handicap over 19 went to Suresh Chandran Balakrishnan Pillai with a score of 69.

Fifteen-year-old Liam Beardsley (7 handicap) had one of his best results by securing the gross prize with an excellent round of 74.

The following weekend, 100 golfers endured the far from spring like conditions to compete for the EGU Medal.

The Course was in excellent condition and recent work on the greens had made them much slicker.

Legsby’s Pete Nash (22) took advantage of this to card the best nett round with 65, just pipping Brian Allison (18) on count-back who consolidated his recent run of good form.

Roger Codd (9) continued where he left off a couple of weeks ago to secure third place with a nett 66.

Another generation of Hinchliffe’s followed in the footsteps of his grandfather, past Captain Ben and father Grant, when Charlie got into fourth place with a nett 66 - another junior to look out for in the future.

The gross prize went to Ben Williamson with a score of 72, just pipping Neil Carmichael on count-back.

The “A” team had a good result against Forest Pines - 3.5 to 2.5 - to record their first league win of the season.
