It was a hard-fought contest played over 36 holes in very hot conditions, but Bridget Holmes held her nerve and played steadily all day to win with a scratch score of 175 for the two rounds.

The runner-up with 182 was Jane Salt, while Sue Archer completed the top three with a score of 190.

Sheilah Mitchell was the nett champion with a great score of 146, four strokes better than second-placed Sharman Scott. Helen Gibbard finished in third with 156.

The best gross score of the morning was Ann Todd’s 98, while Sue Borthwick had the best round of the afternoon.

The best single nett rounds were Lynn Patrick (morning) with 76 and Joy Purkiss (afternoon) on 80.

* The Starbuck Trophy was also played on the same day to discover the seniors champion.

Lorna Moore came out on top after a nett round of 80, two shots clear of runner-up Pauline Neal.

* The Market Rasen ladies travelled to Woodhall Spa last week to play in a friendly match which they lost by three matches to two.
