Free racing for Mums on Sunday

MUMS can watch the horse racing at Market Rasen Racecourse on Mothering Sunday free of charge.

All a loved one has to do is to buy one Tattersalls ticket costing 13 for the fixture on Sunday March 14 - and their mother is admitted free of charge.

Pip Kirkby, the racecourse's managing director, who is herself a new mum, said: "As the boss, I am allowed into the racecourse free anyway! But this is a fantastic offer that my colleagues have come up with while I've been on maternity leave."

As well as the free admission offer for mums, which needs to be purchased in advance, the day can be made extra special by:

* Putting a special 25-word message for mum in the day's racecard - 10.

* Buying mum lunch in the Brocklesby Suite restaurant - 62.50 each, including County Enclosure admission.

* Naming a race after mum, who can then choose the best turned out horse and present the prize to the winning owner after the race - 550.

To make Mothering Sunday extra special for mums, by taking up any of these offers, people should call the racecourse on 01673 843434.

Sunday March 14 is also the Lincolnshire racecourse's annual Irish Day.

Purchased in advance for 15 on 08445 793 009 (and quoting MRID10), the 'Luck of the Irish' package includes Tattersalls admission (worth 13 alone), a steak & stout pie and a discounted bet on the Tote.

Irish band Saddle The Pony will keep visitors jigging away during the afternoon.

There are seven races on Sunday 14 March, the first of which is at 2.10pm.

* MARKET Rasen Racecourse is giving all children free admission from now on.

The racecourse - in common with the majority in Britain - had not charged accompanied under 16s for many years.

The age has now been lifted to all those '17 and under'. No one will pay until they become an adult.

Pip Kirkby, the racecourse's managing director, said: "We're endeavouring as a racecourse and as a sport to attract as many young people as possible.

"With that in mind, the first logical step was to raise our free admission policy to ALL children.

"It is one of the great selling points of horse racing that youngsters are admitted free of charge when accompanied by an adult. That's just got better."

The new policy comes into effect at the fixture on Mothering Sunday (March 14), when mothers are admitted free.
