Tricky quarter final tie for league side
The Lincs League squad
WITH the Euro Championships just around the corner, one group of Lincolnshire footballers will be dreaming of representing their country in Europe.
The Sills and Betteridge Lincolnshire League representative side have reached the quarter-finals of the FA’s national Inter-League Cup.
And on Saturday the team takes on the Cheshire League in the last eight at Lincoln United’s Ashby Avenue ground (kick-off 3pm).
Managed by Boston United’s Glen Maddison and his assistant Allan Ross, the Lincolnshire League have already knocked out the Peterborough League, Anglian Combination and Midland Combination in what is their first entry into the competition.
The quarter-final tie pitches them against one of the tournament favourites, who won the inaugural bi-annual tournament in 2004.
Guernsey were the last winners and they went on to represent England in Split, Croatia, in 2010.
The Lincolnshire League are hoping to attract a large crowd to Ashby Avenue on Saturday to cheer the cream of their players into the semi-finals against either the Isle of Man or Liverpool.
