Too little too late from Town as early goals do the damage

BRIGG Town FC conceded two early goals to make their task of winning precious league points more difficult.

The visitors made the first threatening attack when a free kick from the left wing was headed clear. Brigg replied with Liam Davis making a run down the right wing, but his cross went across the goal area and out for a goal kick.

Then a right wing corner kick for Brigg was scrambled clear from the goal line.

The first goal came after ten minutes of play from the penalty spot. Huckmall attacked down the right wing and when the ball was played to the edge of the penalty area, Matthew Plant was penalised for a trip. The spot kick was converted.

Clearly shaken by this set back, Brigg went two goals behind in the next minute when the ball was chipped into the penalty area from the right wing and a header was planted into the top corner of the goal.

Brigg couldn’t get their game together for the rest of the first half and the visitors dominated possession, creating further chances to increase their lead.

The second half showing was better and after Liam Davis created an opening for John Leonard to get a shot across the face of the goal, Brigg reduced the arrears 13 minutes after half time to get well back into the game.

The goal scored came from Liam Davis, who took possession of the ball close to the half way line and went past two defenders before striking a great shot into the roof of the net from 20–yards out.

Encouraged by this success, Brigg pushed for an equaliser and two attempts at scoring were cleared off the goal line by good defending.

Time ran out and the home team were left defeated on their own ground again.
