Sleaford 0-3 Market Rasen Town

Saturday, August 20

After promising pre season performances Market Rasen Town got their Lincolnshire League campaign under way with a tricky fixture away at Sleaford Town, and deservedly came away with maximum spoils.

Rasen got off to the perfect start when new signing Andy Belt finished off a great move involving other new signing Nathan Smith, smashing home from 18 yards.

From then, Rasen always looked in control and were further rewarded when Nathan Adams finished expertly when turning his marker to fire past the helpless home keeper.

A second half header from Ian Williams from a pinpoint Matt Rutherford cross finished Sleaford off, but Jake Wade forced a save from the Sleaford keeper and a disallowed goal from Nathan Adams could have made it an even bigger scoreline.

Will Bradford in the Rasen goal was rarely troubled and Rasen’s strength and classy passing on a poor surface would have filled Manager Andy Brumpton with hope for the season ahead.

The next match is played tonight at Rase Park.
