Town travelled to Nettleham with hopes of securing their first league win for five months with just goal difference separating them and their opponents at kick-off.

Following a goalless first half, the hosts made a vital change when they brought on Thomas Williams.

He struck with 19 minutes left and then sealed the win with Nettleham’s second with eight minutes remaining.

The 2-0 defeat means Rasen have failed to find the net in their last three matches - and just twice in 10 games - and have now lost 16 of their last 18 matches.

On Saturday they host Sleaford Sports Amateurs at Rase Park (kick-off 3pm) with a rare chance of a double following a 3-1 win at Eslaforde Park back in September. Angus Findlay (2) and Kyle Paul were on target.

* Brigg Town Reserves had the weekend off and extra time to prepare for this weekend’s big Challenge Cup semi-final.

They host Nettleham on Saturday (kick-off 2.30pm) in the last four tie, with title-chasing Skegness Town and top four side Horncastle Town meeting in the other semi-final.

Brigg won their only meeting this season as they edged a seven-goal thriller back in October, thanks to a brace from David Deane and goals from Ryan Thompson and Jonathan Nicholls.

They will also host Nettleham in their final league match of the season on Saturday, April 22.
