MARKET Rasen Under 9s have made a fantastic start to their first year in competitive football in the Mid Lincs league.

Rasen started with three away fixtures, the first being at Ruskington. They commanded the game from start to finish, with great interplay between the midfield and strikers. Both of Rasen’s strikers, Alex Aistrop and Finlay Drakes got six apiece and with a Ruskington own goal the final score was Market Rasen 13, Ruskington 0.

Defence was dominated by Philip Rands-Bett and Joshua Nichols. Christopher Allen and Alex Smith made their debuts for Rasen and they soon settled into the game, making and receiving crucial passes in midfield. Finlay Drakes was named player of the match for his outstanding performance, not only scoring goals, but linking up with Alex Aistrop.

A long trip to Boston JFC saw Rasen on top again. Rasen’s passing and movement off the ball led to goals from Alex Aistrop, Finlay Drakes and Christopher Allen and Rasen’s second win of the season.

Libby-Jo Shipham played her first league game in defence and was awarded player of the match for her commitment to the position and very little got past her.

George Dimmock had a quiet game in goal but was there to make important saves and releasing the strikers from goal kicks. Andrew Marriott didn’t stop running all match, his ability to time tackles and move the ball around the field of play is outstanding. Final score Market Rasen 12, Boston JFC 1.

Rasen’s third match was a short trip to Hykeham Tigers, great defensive work from Joshua Nichols and Libby-Jo Shipham and Konrad Ramsey in goal kept the Tigers tally to one.

In midfield, Alex Smith and Andrew Mariott and up front Alex Aistrop and Finlay Drakes played brilliantly off each other with all four players getting on the score sheet, and Alex Smith getting his first goal for the team.

Joshua Nichols was awarded player of the match for his sheer commitment in defence, making several clearances to deny the Tigers goals. This made it three wins out of three for Rasen with a final score of Market Rasen 11, Hykeham Tigers 1.

Team coach Karen Aistrop said: “We have had an outstanding start to our season scoring 36 goals in three matches and only conceding two is a credit to every team member, we have some hard games coming up so it’s important to keep this momentum going.”

The team have also secured two new sponsors this season with Drake PWS Ltd sponsoring rain jackets and Grimsby Audi providing the teams away kit.
