FOOTBALL: Brigg Town U18s suffer first defeat but remain top as title chase heats up

Brigg Town lost their first game of the season in the Lincolnshire Intermediate U18s Football League Central Division to Messingham Juniors at the weekend.

A solo effort from the prolific Ben Brown separated the teams, 1-0 the final score.

Messingham now move to third in the table, within two points of Brigg at the top with a game in hand.

Saxilby Athletic are in second place, only a point behind the leaders after a convincing 10-2 victory over Hykeham Tigers.

Cleethorpes Town are another team in contention at the top of Central Division after a 5-3 victory at home to Welton.

Clee had five different goal scorers, with George Bennett, David Hamman, Saxon Wraith, Jordan Patel and Will Dyas. Welton’s goals were scored by Tom Crowther (2) and Will Gibson.

This week the teams take a break from league action and face off in the Jackson Workwear Trophy Quarter Finals.

Welton are at home to Old Leake Youth, 1.30pm kick off, and Brigg Town are at home to St Helens Colts, a 10.45am kick off.
