Chasestown 2-0 Brigg Town
Ryan Paczkowski was out injured and Greg Archer unavailable for the long trip, but Chas Fisher returned to the Brigg defence.
The home team made the first telling attack, winning a right wing corner kick, but this was cleared. Brigg responded with a quick break down the left and when the ball was switched inside for Paul Grimes, he was brought down inside the penalty area with strong claims for a penalty kick waved aside.
Chasetown took the lead after 12-minutes with an attack down the right wing and Chas Fisher missed out leaving the home forward free to shoot strongly to the near post. Miles Fenty saved his first shot well but the ball bounced back for the mid-fielder to make no mistake with his follow up.
This was a clear set back after a promising start, but Brigg had a great chance to level the score five minutes from the break when Liam Davis was left with an open goal, but his shot went past the far upright.
Play in the second half was fairly even but clear openings scarce at both ends. The second goal decided the game and was scored ten minutes from time after substitute Sam Downey was knocked off the ball at the edge of the Chasetown penalty area leading to a firm shot into the roof of the net.
This defeat sends Brigg down the league table by a couple of places to 10th position.
On Saturday, Brigg travel to play at league leaders Coalville Town and follow this up with a home game on Tuesday March 12 against Loughborough Dynamo.
