After their disappointing result in the first league game away at Chasetoiwn, Brigg Town FC were hoping to kick-start their season in a game against Carlton Town.
Liam Dickens returned into the starting line up with William Peers named as substitute.
Brigg started with an attack down the left wing resulting in an angled shot from Paul Grimes over the bar. Then Paul Grimes and Scott Matthews worked an opening, but the latter’s shot at goal was blocked.
Chas Fisher got forward to meet a left wing corner kick but his header was cleared from the goal line. Brigg pushed forward again and a right wing attack ended with Jordan Thewliss sending the ball across the face of the visitors’ goal line. Then Paul Grimes in front of goal saw his header hit the cross bar and be cleared.
Brigg had the best chance of the game two minutes after the break when Paul Ashton was played clear in front of goal with a tap-in on the cards, but he completely missed his kick and the chance went begging.
This mistake was punished seven minutes later when the visitors scored the all important first goal. It came from a right wing corner kick which should have been cleared but the ball fell neatly for the visiting attacker who slid it into the corner of the net.
Confidence drained from the Brigg team and the visitors took control, adding a second after 70 minutes to make sure of the points which took them to the top of the league table after just two games.
