Emphatic Rasen draw level at the top

Market Rasen Under 9s 5 Greenbank 5

THIS was a hugely entertaining game between two teams second and third in the table before the start of the match and the game started brightly with both sides having chances early on.

Greenbank took the lead after three minutes with a low shot into the bottom corner of the net, but Rasen equalised two minutes later with a low shot from Callum Dean which beat the keeper.

Rasen created chances for Greg Watson and Ben Flear, but good defending and goalkeeping kept them out.

Greenbank capitalised on Rasen failing to clear their lines to go 1-2 up and then 1-3 up with a shot that only just went over the line.

Just before half time, Greg Watson scored after a great run to bring Rasen back to 2-3.

Rasen came out brightly in the second half with half chances for Greg Watson, Callum Dean and Toby Ross, but Greenbank scored a fantastic long range goal into the top corner to make it 2-4.

Rasen scored when Callum Dean rattled the crossbar and the ball just crossed the line. Two minutes later, Rasen equalised when Callum Dean capitalised on hesitancy in the Greenbank defence to rifle home.

Both teams created chances but a poor pass from Rasen was crossed in by Greenbank for their striker to score from six yards to make it 4-5, but two minutes later Man of the Match Callum Dean scored his fourth of the game and Rasen’s fifth to level at 5-5.

This was a great game with neither side deserving to lose.

The point earned from this game has enabled the Market Rasen team to join Lincoln team HBW on 14 points at the top of the table; a fantastic achievement for the youngsters.

Team: Oliver Adlam, George Balmer, Finley Boyes (c), Callum Dean (MOM), Benjamin Flear, Liam Jordan, Joshua Jordan, Toby Ross, Greg Watson
