CAISTOR- based Discoveries Safer Communities Under 14s Football Club completed a hat-trick of successes in the McDonalds Cup Final held at Glanford Park, Scunthorpe.
It was the club’s third consecutive appearance in the final of the competition and once again they came out triumphant, after beating Appleby Frodingham Colts 5-1.
Just 24 hours following a League One game against Bournemouth, there were doubts as to whether Scunthorpe United’s pitch would be playable, with puddles in the centre circle and at the corners, occupied by a pair of mallards prior to kick off.
But the game went ahead - in driving rain - with some excellent passing throughout and all credit goes to both sides.
Having played a season in a higher league - at Under 15 level - the extra physical and fitness levels of the Discoveries team saw them dominate, especially in the second half, as the heavy pitch sapped energy levels.
Goal scorers for Safer were Harry Clifton, Lee Baume, Kyle Catmull, Sam Sarbutt and Charlie Bates, with Harry Clifton completing his own hat-trick by being nominated by the McDonald’s representative as the Man of the Match for each of the three finals.
