Disappointing day for Brigg

TRAVELLING to the East Midlands, Brigg Town FC went down 2-1 to Loughborough Dynamo.

Playing against the strong wind in the first half, Brigg struggled to get into the game and were two goals down at half time.

The team included new signings, Sam Mulready, on loan from Gainsborough Trinity, and Jason Field.

Loughborough scored their first goal in the 18th minute when a ball pulled back from the right wing across the face of the goal was turned into the corner of the net.

Tom Woodhead then made a good save whilst at the other end, Liam Dickens’ right wing corner was headed over the bar.

Loughborough added a second goal after 28 minutes with a deflection into the back of the net from a left wing cross.

After a poor first half showing, Brigg played much better in the second half, but failed to create good openings and the home team were content to hold on to their two goal lead.

Brigg enjoyed the majority of possession, but the home team looked the more likely to break quickly to catch them open at the back. Continuing to press, Brigg’s Ollie Fisher surged forward, but drove a fierce shot over the bar and then delivered a free kick into the goal area for Ryan Paczkowski, who headed the ball over the bar.

Brigg managed to score in the last minute of the game, when Matthew Plant hammered the ball into the roof of the net following a throw from the left touch line, but this came too late to recover a point which had looked unlikely after the first half disappointment.

Brigg now have two successive home fixtures, with Hucknall Town visiting on Saturday afternoon and then Coalville Town a week later.
