Confident start for Market Rasen U10s

Claytons Under 10s 1 Market Rasen under 10s A 3

AFTER winning promotion to the Mid Lincs Co-Op Youth ‘A’ League, the boys have had a great pre–season finishing runners up in the Hykeham Tigers’ Tournament.

They only lost on sudden death penalties in the final and enjoyed wins in all three friendlies away at North Lindum Hawkes, Claytons and Greenbank Buccaneers.

In their debut game in the A League, Market Rasen started confidently, creating chances for Greg Watson and Callum Dean.

Rasen dealt comfortably with everything that Claytons managed to create. After 15 minutes, Rasen took the lead when, after a good team move, Greg Watson fired home from the edge of the box.

Soon after the restart, George Balmer hit a great shot from outside the box, crossed in from from a corner, which just went wide. Claytons equalised on 18 minutes from a free kick, which was harshly given against the Rasen defence.

Just two minutes later, Rasen took the lead again when Ben Flear chased down a Claytons’ defender who cleared the ball to Callum Dean on the halfway line. He hit a first time shot which flew into the top corner of the net.

Rasen created further chances for Watson, Flear and C. Dean without converting them. Half time 1-2.

Alex Rawden and Oliver Adlam came on in the second half and Rasen continued to control the game for long spells, with Watson, C. Dean, Rawden and Adlam all going close.

But on 54 minutes, Watson made the game safe with his second goal and Rasen’s third with a great low drive.

Cameron Lord came on for Watson for his league debut in the last few minutes and Rasen saw out the game with a great 1-3 win. Kyle Bainbridge was man of the match.
