Brigg suffer another defeat as they lose four-nil at home

BRIGG Town suffered another defeat when they went down 4-0 at home to Rainworth M.W.

After a mid–week defeat against Buxton FC in the third round of the Doodson Sports Cup, Brigg were hoping to improve upon their poor run of league results with a home game against Rainworth.

They were without the services of Alan Lamb and Phil Jackman, another blow to the manager’s hopes of keeping experienced players in the team line up.

In the first attack of the game, Lawrence Heward made progress on the left wing before Liam Davis won possession to send a shot across the face of the opposing goal from 20–yards out. Rainworth immediately responded down their left wing, but when the ball was played into the penalty area, Tom Woodhead was able to hold on to it in front of goal.

Play was even for the first quarter of an hour, but the visitors took the lead after 17 minutes when Brigg lost possession in their own half.

Two minutes later proved to be a disaster for the home team, when the ball was played into the goal area with little apparent danger, but a complete misunderstanding between Lee Cochrane and goalkeeper Tom Woodhead resulted in the former heading the ball weakly into the back of the net from six–yards out.

The visitors scored a third goal five minutes from half time when Connor Marshall failed to cut out a left wing attack and the ball was switched across the penalty for a shot into the bottom of the net.

Michael Smith replaced Connor Marshall and Steve Cannon came on for John Wilkinson at half time.

Brigg played better in the second half, but the visitors always looked comfortable.

The fourth goal came 20 minutes from time
