Attacking under-nines grab all the points in two entertaining games

Greenbank Buccaneers U9S 1

Market Rasen U9S 2

THE MATCH kicked off with Market Rasen quickly on the attack and Greg Watson having a great chance, which the Greenbank keeper saved well.

Rasen were playing the better football but Greenbank were threatening on the counter attack. Halfway through the first half, Greenbank took the lead when, from a corner, a superb header went into the top corner of the net.

The game was end to end, but Rasen finished the half strongly with chances for George Balmer, Ben Flear and Greg Watson, all unluckily denied.

Rasen came out in the second half and took the game to Greenbank, who only threatened on the break.

Oliver Adlam and Callum Dean both hit the woodwork and the Greenbank keeper made three brilliant saves from Greg Watson, Toby Ross and George Balmer.

Rasen finally equalised halfway through the second half with a great drive from man of the match Callum Dean.

Rasen went looking for the winner but good goal keeping and fortunate defending looked like keeping them out until Greg Watson broke away and scored the winner with a low shot that the keeper got a hand to, but could not keep out.

This was an exceptional win at second in the table Greenbank. All team members had fantastic games.

Team: Finlay Boyes (c), Liam Jordon, Oliver Adlam , Callum Dean, George Balmer, Greg Watson, Benjamin Flear, Toby Ross, Davey Wallace.

Market Rasen u9s 4

Lowlands u9s 3

THIS game started brightly with both teams going on the attack.

After three minutes Lowlands went 0-1 up when an unmarked player scored with a low drive. Two minutes later, Lowlands were 0-2 up with a lovely worked goal.

This seemed to bring Rasen back into the game and after ten minutes Callum Dean scored a good goal to bring Rasen back to 2-1.

Rasen were now in control and after 15 minutes were level after a fine run and cross by Greg Watson was met by George Balmer, who scored with a lovely shot.

Rasen were unlucky not to take the lead with the Lowlands’ keeper making good saves from Greg Watson and man of the match Ben Flear.

Ben Flear was also unlucky with a shot just over the bar. Lowlands took the lead just before half time when a cross hit an unlucky Callum Dean and rolled in.

But Rasen came storming out in the second half and Callum Dean hit the post with a great long range shot.

The young side then had several chances with Lowlands only threatening on the break. Greg Watson scored a great goal to make it 3-3 and two minutes later Rasen went 4-3 up with a good shot from Callum Dean.

Rasen then had chances to increase their lead before Lowlands came back into the game and had two good chances, one of which saw a fine save from Rasen keeper Finley Boyes.

There were no further goals in the game and Rasen deserved to win a thoroughly entertaining game.
