Cricket coaching for youngsters

THE START of the school holidays brings an opportunity for nine to 15 year olds to learn the basic skills of cricket.

A three day coaching course at Grimsby Town Cricket Club will cover batting, bowling and fielding and include an introduction to net coaching and to the laws of the game.

The club’s Sri Lankan professional Gihan Perera is one of the coaches, together with Grimsby Town 1st XI players and coaches and the club’s bowling machine will be in use for specific net coaching. Perera is a qualified coach and is captain of his professional club in Colombo.

Running from Monday July 27 to Wednesday 29, from 9am to 3.30pm each day, the course costs 30 for the three days, though it is possible to book just two days for 20.

Grimsby’s clubhouse will be open throughout the course and those attending should bring a packed lunch and a waterproof jacket in case of inclement weather. Alternative cricket-related activities will be laid on if coaching cannot take place outside.

An application form is available from Grimsby Town’s clubhouse in Augusta Street or by ringing 07837 124115.
