Rasen’s third consecutive wash-out

SEASONAL bank holiday weather led to Market Rasen Town Cricket Club enduring another weekend of washed out fixtures.

The club’s Lincolnshire League sides have now lost three rounds of matches to the weather as the club suffers the wettest start to a season in living memory.

The 1st XI did make it onto the park for the first time in 2012 on Bank Holiday Monday.

The game against Bracebridge Heath 2nds saw a whopping 15½ overs of play before the weather again intervened and pulled a grey, wet curtain down upon proceedings.

In that time Dale Christie took the opportunity to remind the smattering of spectators of his abilities, with a brisk 21 upon his return to the Lincolnshire League as Rasen grafted to 43 for 2 from 15.3 overs.

However, once the rain came down play was abandoned for the day without another ball being bowled.

One Rasen side did manage to complete a match for the first time this season, with the U9s losing narrowly to Collingham on Sunday.

The youths from Nottinghamshire were held to a score of 239 for 6 from their 16 overs, thanks to some enthusiastic Rasen fielding and a tidy bowling effort.

Unfortunately, Collingham’s own bowlers proved even more adept at exploiting what was, unsurprisingly, a damp wicket, and restricted Rasen to 217 for 5.

This is a promising start for Rasen’s youngest side and bodes well for the rest of their season.

This weekend sees only two games for the club; the 2nd XI host Scunthorpe Town 2nds at Rase Park on Saturday, 1.30pm start, and the Sunday 1st XI travel to Cross O’ Cliff Court to play Premier Division new-boys, Bracebridge Heath 1sts, 2pm start.
