Rasen Mail cricket round-up: Caistor rocked by leaders Scothern

Caistor’s promising early season form deserted them when they visited Premier League leaders Scothern on Saturday.

Batting first, Caistor were dismissed for a paltry 72, Rory Ronaldson top scoring with 25 and Kieran Brooker hitting 17. Drabble, McGowan and Brown each took 3 wickets for Scothern.

The hosts reached the target for the floss of four wickets, James Drabble hitting 20. Sean Woolley took three wickets for Caistor, the other going to Brooker.

* In Division One, Caistor Second XI fared little better at home to Lindum Seconds.

The hosts made 131-9 which fell a little short of being a decent total on the day as captain Sam Welton, batting at first wicket down, top scored with 35.

Veteran all-rounder and club groundsman Ernie Allison knew his wicket had no gremlins and provided resistance down the order with an unbeaten 13. But it proved in vain as Lindum had no trouble reaching 133-2 for an easy eight-wicket win.

In the same division, Keelby fared better after winning the toss and opting to bat at Keelby Sports Ground.

Their total of 122 all out owed much to Danny Bevis (20), Jamie Charlton (21), and Paul Eames (20).

It was just enough to overcome Haxey who could only reach 107 in reply (Ryan Moody 47, Mark Metcalf 42) as Michael Phillips produced season’s best figures of 6 for 38 to clean up the visitors.

* In Division Two, Hibaldstow went down by just three runs at home to Outcasts Seconds.

The Isle of Axeholme side batted first and posted 188-9, a total which owed much to opener Andrew Lawson’s efforts with 49.

Joe Taylor, with four wickets, and Tom Taylor with three, struck for Hibaldstow who got very close to successfully chasing down the target but were all out for 185.

Jon Taylor showed his sons that although they could bowl, he could still bat, top scoring with a determined 58. Andy Torr’s five-wicket haul did the damage in the visiting attack.

* Brigg Town had an easy win in Division Four over Louth Third XI. Batting first, Brigg Town hit 144 with Mark Dawson hitting 31 and Dave Baggott chipping in with 34.

In reply, Louth were all out for 69, giving Brigg an easy 71-run win. There were three wickets apiece for Tom Brock, Phil Dewfall and Nick Beacock.
