On a day which promised mixed weather and the prospect of interruptions, Rasen travelled to Crowle to visit Outcasts CC at their newly-renovated ground.

Having lost the toss for the fourth successive match, the Rasen captain Liam Scales was pleasantly surprised at the hosts’ decision to bat first on what looked a difficult pitch on which to bat aggressively.

The visitors were soon into their stride with Paul Martin making the initial breakthrough when opening bat Oliver Coulman was caught at the wicket without scoring.

This laid the path for an excellent spell during which Martin conceded just 10 runs from seven overs, while new ball partner Dan Clark sent down seven overs and claimed three vital wickets for just 30 runs.

Outcasts veteran Mark Coulman took time to steady the home side innings with support from Tait (16) and Clark (26), and Rasen may have felt they had failed to capitalise on a good start as Outcasts reached drinks only five wickets down.

But in the first over after drinks Penniston got the breakthrough, and with support from Boryszczuk and Nash, eventually bowled out the hosts for just 117 inside 42 overs.

Rasen made an unconvincing start to their innings, losing Christie for four and Bradford for just one as the innings spluttered its way to 17-2.

This brought Martin back into the game once more to form a partnership with a very patient Tom Boryszczuk.

A slight rain interruption delayed proceedings, but the outcome never looked in doubt as the visitors drew within seven runs of victory before Martin was caught for 41.

Boryszczuk would not be denied and closed out the innings with a solid 64 not out.
