Downpour wrecks fixtures
CAISTOR Cricket Club’s Lincolnshire Premier League title aspirations were put on hold by the post tea interval rain on Saturday.
Cleethorpes 2nds batted first on the normally batsman friendly Chichester Road track.
Paul Dimbleby made early inroads, clean bowling Ian Mansfield for 4.
A second wicket stand of 75 between Stuart Airey and Inderjit Hayre meant Cleethorpes looked likely to set a challenging total.
The home side declared on 200 for 8 at 46 overs, with Dimbleby claiming 3 for 69 and Sahan Wijerathne 3 for 35.
That unfortunately was it however, as the rains came down and no further play was possible.
Among those sides challenging at the top of the table, Alford and Barton Town won, while Scunthorpe Town suffered the same fate as Caistor and saw their game abandoned.
Also in the Premier League, South Kelsey showed their best form with the bat for some time against Broughton.
South Kelsey hit 215 for five; Rob Baty top scoring with 65.
However, the rain gods did not help their relegation fight and Broughton were on 14 for no wicket when the game was abandoned.
In Division 2, Caistor 2nds hit 110 and saw Alkborough 2nds on 17 for one when this was also abandoned.
Owmby hit 165 (Dave Hill 54) and Hartsholme 2nds were on 7 for no wicket when the storm arrived and this game too was abandoned.
In Division 3, South Kelsey 2nds v Cleethorpes 4ths and Haxey 2nds v Hibaldstow were both cancelled due to wet conditions - no play at all being possible.
In Division 4, Keelby 2nds were on 64 for 1 against Caistor 3rds when the match was abandoned.
Players around the area will be hoping the final two weeks of this saturated and frustrating cricket season will be able to be played out in dry weather.
