CAISTOR made a disappointing exit from the George Marshall Trophy when they crashed out to Bracebridge Heath in the second round at Cross-O-Cliff Court in Lincoln.
Caistor won the toss and decided to bat on a ground in good condition despite the deluge of the previous day.
They made a decent start with Harry Boulton leading the way as he and Jim Parker put on 54 for the first wicket before Boulton was caught and bowled by Josh Lee for 36.
Parker was bowled on the same score for 16 by Matthew Knights. The innings was then dominated by the stand of the match between Sahan Wijerathne and Dominic Bishop, who added 103 together and were only parted when Wijerathne was dismissed for 64 with the total on 157.
Captain Liam Wood went without scoring, but Paul Dimbleby stayed with Bishop who remained not out on 58 when the innings closed on 195 for just four wickets.
Dimbleby was unbeaten on 13. It seemed a defendable total given the effect of the recent rains on the outfield.
The home side were in determined mood however and set about their run chase. Paul Jackson captured the early wickets of Makwana, 8, and McDowall, 26, but Monson and Watson put together a useful stand to take the total to 120 before they were parted.
Wickets continued to fall, three of them to spinner Sahan Wijerathne, but the home side closed in on their target to get home on 196 for 7 in the 45th and final over.
It was a narrow and frustrating defeat for Caistor who will look to get back to winning ways when they entertain Messingham this Saturday at Brigg Road.
Elshewhere it was another patchy programme as grounds were still saturated from the rain and heavy showers on Saturday were of the hit and miss variety with some venues relatively unscathed.
Owmby (Division 2) lost at home to Scunthorpe side Appleby-Frodingham 2nds by 35 runs at Todmoor, Kev Bowring finishing unbeaten on 57 for the villagers.
What was building into a good cup-tie at Keelby was ruined by the weather at tea. Keelby posted 172 for eight in their 45 overs against visitors Louth 2nds. A totally new tie will now take place on Thursday July 5 at Louth.
The only local Division 4 game played on Saturday saw Ryan Farrow take three wickets for Caistor 3rds in a 19-run home win over Immingham Blossom Way at Brigg Road.
