It was a day for the bowlers as Caistor 1sts proceeded to the next round of the George Marshall Trophy with victory over Broughton 1sts.
The visitors to Brigg Road won the toss and put Caistor into bat.
Harry Boulton and Paul Dimbleby built a good opening partnership scoring 22 and 21 respectively before both being bowled by Tom Reed.
Wickets then continued to fall at regular intervals, Stuart Costello’s 22 and Kieran Brooker’s 16 the only other significant stands for Caistor as they were dismissed for 112, a total that looked very achievable.
Caistor’s bowlers had other ideas, Paul Dimbleby, Sean Woolley and Kieran Brooker finishing with three wickets apiece as they ripped through Broughton’s batting line-up and had them back in the clubhouse for 78 to record a 34 run victory.
Caistor 2nds were unlucky not to proceed in the Bob Welton Cup quarter final away at Alkborough.
Caistor lost by just four runs on a wicket where the batsmen starred. The visitors hit 214 in the allotted 45 overs, Liam Wood top scoring with 64, Ryan Mckitton hitting 50, while Peter Jacob, Nathan Davis and Kevin Parker making useful knocks of 29, 25 and 26 respectively.
Joseph Wiley’s unbeaten stand of 69 proved crucial as Alkborough hit 218 in their 45 overs to proceed to the semi finals.
On Sunday Caistor 3rds eased to a home win against East Halton 1sts in the Lincolnshire League Division Four.
Caistor hit 209 in their 45 overs, losing just five wickets. They then dismissed East Halton for just 50 runs.
Caistor 1sts will be looking to reproduce their performance this Saturday as they again face Broughton, but this time on their turf. The 2nds also return to league action as they welcome Washingborough 1sts to Brigg Road.
