Market Rasen Town Cricket Club 1st XI bagged their third win in four league games on Bank Holiday Monday.
It was to an excellent team effort with the bat and left arm spin twins Matt Rutherford and Gary Bierlein, who both took four wickets, proved to much for Cleethorpes 2nds at Rase Park.
Batting first on another beautiful day, all of Rasen’s top six contributed to a competitive total of 181 for 6. David Papworth, 35, and Liam Scales, 40, were the leading scorers for the home side.
Whilst the visitors knew they would have to bat well to chase down Rasen’s total, they would not have expected to have succumbed as meekly as they eventually did.
Will Bradford took the new ball and made the initial breakthrough, picking up 2 for 18 from his seven over spell.
Liam Dickens, 21, and Paul Sunley, 21, attempted to rescue the situation for the Meggies, but skipper Matt Rutherford had other ideas, ripping out both batsmen to trigger an impressive collapse as Cleethorpes subsided from 43 for 2 to 73 all out.
Gary Bierlein picked up where Rutherford had left off, cleaning up the middle order to leave the last man for Rutherford.
Between them the spinners had take 8 for 50 from 30 overs and spun Rasen to victory.
