Caistor took the bragging rights in the second local derby of the season against Market Rasen at Brigg Road on Saturday.

Rasen took the honours in the George Marshall Trophy last month, but Caistor made use of home advantage to win the first Lincolnshire County League meeting by 51 runs.

Market Rasen won the toss and elected to bowl first, and like last week the bowlers managed to keep the score down.

However, despite Ryan Penniston taking an early wicket, Caistor managed to keep wickets in hand, thanks to a score of 43 by Harry Boulton and 34 from Kieron Brooker.

The pick of the bowlers for Rasen was Albie Wright who took 3 for 68 from 16 overs, while a special mention also goes to Penniston who bowled very economically with figures of 1 for 31 from 16 overs.

After their allotted 45 overs, Caistor posted 168-5.

In reply, Rasen got off to a good start and, only needing just under four runs an over, felt confident in chasing down their target.

But when Rasen lost a couple of early wickets with the score on 55-3, the game was still in the balance.

However the Rasen middle and lower order collapsed as the visitors were bowled out for just 117 inside 40 overs.

Gary Tillson was the chief tormentor in the Caistor attack, finishing with figures of 5 for 42 off 11 overs.

The only positive in the Rasen batting line-up was another good Premier Division performance from Liam Scales who continued his fine form with a knock of 50.

The result dropped Market Rasen to seventh, one place and only six points above Caistor.

On Saturday, Market Rasen return to Rase Park hoping to get back to winning ways against Hartsholme, while Caistor visit Alford.

Both matches start at 1pm.
