Jamie Carter speaks on hopes for future after Paralympic Games

WHEELCHAIR racer Jamie Carter of Binbrook has had a dramatic Paralympics and the teenager is now on the road to Rio 2016.

Jamie is just 17 and one of the youngest members of Great Britain’s track and field team.

He clocked 17.75 seconds to finish sixth in his 100m heat, outside the mark required to progress to the final.

However, he would have needed to smash his 17.38 sec personal best to advance and acknowledges there is plenty of hard work ahead if he is to close the gap on the world’s best.

He said: “The whole experience has been amazing and I really wanted to get out there again and have another race in front of this crowd.”

Jamie can take plenty of positives from his experience, in particular his personal best in the 200m.

“Coming here I wanted to get a personal best and make a final and I achieved that in the 200m, so I can’t be too upset with my performance, although you always want more,” he added.

“I’m one of the youngest guys on the team and I’m still learning really, this is hopefully the first of many Paralympic Games for me.

“The support I’ve had here at the stadium, in the village and back home has been overwhelming, it’s impossible to how much it means to have all those people behind you.

“I’m hoping to get a new chair for next season and I’ll spend a good winter getting used to it with the World Championships next year.”

He also hopes to continue working with David Weir, whose gold medal winning performances have defined these Games.
