A total of 14 anglers made the draw at 5.45pm, and with the fish being in the shallow water, all of the pegs in this part of the lake were used.

The draw became all important to see which angler would get the top peg 36.

The all-in came at 6.30pm and the anglers set about building winning weights for the three-hour match.

Most were on the fish from the start, but the flyer peg 36 saw Stuart Cash fish the waggler and duly win the match with a weight of 3lb 12oz.

He won by just four ounces from the in-form Andy Labaj, from peg two, again fishing the waggler to finish with 3lb 8oz. Bud Chambers took the final payout slot in third with 3lb 1oz, fishing the pole from peg three.

* The anglers made a quick return to the Willingham Road lake on Sunday for the annual charity match.

This year the anglers decided to donate half of the match fees to the Diabetes UK and Cancer Research UK charities in memory of match secretary Dave Humphreys who passed away earlier this year.

A total of 12 anglers made the 8.30am draw for the six-hour match and, after heavy rain leading up to the match, the shallow water pegs were again used while the fish were still in the area of these pegs.

The all-in came with warm and very overcast conditions and very little breeze, but the heavens opened with heavy rain for the last hour which saw very few fish caught.

The anglers knew Sam Appleyard, on the flyer peg 36, would take some beating, and he won the match with 10lb 10oz.

Jim Kelham was second from peg seven with 9lb 7oz, but was denied a win by losing three decent bream with hook pulls during the match.

Andy Labaj was again in he top three, putting together a 6lb 10oz haul from peg eight to claim third spot.

The match raised £60 for the charities.
