The Market Rasen Angling Association match also formed the second leg of the Travis Perkins-sponsored Sunday Summer Aggregate Shield.

The draw took place at 8.30am with the pegs being used in shallow water hoping the bream were still in that part of the lake.

The all-in was shouted at 9.30am and the anglers set about trying to build a winning weight.

But it was far from easy with a few anglers catching steadily, while the rest struggled for bites and this proved to be the case throughout the six-hour match.

Ted Goulsbra weighed in with 4lb 11oz from peg 28, fishing the feeder, to take third place before Jim Kelham, fishing the waggler, took the lead with 7lb 1oz from peg 31.

This looked likely to be enough for the win, but Andy Labaj had other ideas, taking 7lb 13oz for a well-deserved victory from peg four, again using the waggler.

The win moved Andy to the top of the league after two matches.

* The Thursday Night League gets under way on June 9 and the matchmen have secured sponsorship once again for this league from major county building merchants Jackson Buildbase.

* The next Sunday competition is the annual charity match which this year will be raising money for Diabetes UK and Cancer Reserch UK in memory of the late match secretary Dave Humphreys.

The association would like to see as many members there as possible.
