Cricket: MARKET Rasen's Sunday side suffered their worst defeat of the season to Hartsholme on Sunday - Hartsholme replying with 158 for 0 to the Rasen target of 157 all out.
A hot, muggy afternoon was enlivened by a devastating display of hitting by Hartsholme's Australian professional, Daniel Odd, who hit 100 not out and led his team's demolition of Market Rasen's meagre total of 157.
His innings spared none of the a
ttack and saw the ball leaving the ground with regularity. He was ably supported by Steve Bell who nudged 55 not out, as Hartsholme reached their target of 158 with 20 overs to spare.
With the exception of Lee Chambers' tidy work behind the stumps Rasen were thoroughly outclassed in the field.
Having chosen to bat Rasen were looking for their, potentially, strong batting lineup to post a competitive score of 200 plus. However, at no point did this appear achievable.
Wickets were lost consistently as Rasen's batsmen showed a profligacy and wickets were harvested by Hartsholme's attack, with P Sheppard being the major beneficiary, taking 4 for 25. Only Richard Limmer and Jon Stephenson, with 32 and 33 respectively, stood out from the carnage in their contrasting styles.
With little support for the two, Rasen staggered to 157 all out and the rest was settled by Odd.
