Owmby 122 all out Boston 123
for 6

OWMBY made a steady start when put to bat by Boston with Bowring playing some excellent shots all round the wicket. But then, with the score on 14, Brook was dismissed by the pacey Thirkell for 2.

Under 15 player Atkin, coming in third,
was soon removed by Thirkell for 0 and first team batsman Deegan followed in the same way after making a quick fire 4.

Indian overseas player Mankar steadied the ship and slowly formed a partnership with Bowring. Mankar set about the bowling attack with fantastic straight drives and the score moved on to 85. Mankar was adjudged LBW for a well grafted 18.

Bowring was now in his late 30s, holding the Owmby innings together, wten skipper Snell joined him at the crease with the score on 60 for 4. Snell took over where Mankar left off and knocked two boundaries in his first over.

Broughton, Chambers, Brook and Catignaniwere all out for 0 from 12 balls, the captain came out on 38 and u13 batsman Cooke was stranded on 1 not out to leave the visitors’ final score 122 all out.

Chambers and Catignani opened the attack on Boston; Chambers bowling recent Sussex trialist Conrad Louth middle stump after facing only six balls.

Boston was soon on 115 with 4 wickets remaining and Gidlling hit two fours in as many balls to give the victory to Boston.

This was a good bowling and fielding performance for Owmby with special mention to Chambers who finished 5 for 30 from 10 overs.

l Owmby was on 32 for 2 to South Clifton’s 104 for 8 when the match was abandoned to rain. The under 16 opening attack of Catignani and Clark bowled superbly, in which Clark struck twice in his first spell removing the dangerous Coverdale and Fotheringham, with Catignani building the pressure from the other end. The first ten overs had only gone for 13 runs and with 2 wickets down the visitors were struggling.

Deegan and Snell’s partnership kept the Clifton batsmen tied down, struggling to score. Froggatt was caught behind by u13 keeper Cooke.

Mankar and Snell toiled away for the next 17 overs, then Mankar dismissed Clifton skipper Moulds, caught by Broughton in front of his fans.

South Clifton ended up after 40 overs 104 for 8 . Owmby’s new opening pair of Simpkins and Brook started well seeing the score race on to 15 from the first 2 overs before Brook was clean bowled and Simpkins soon followed after a quick-fire 17. Cooper and Deegan came out to steer Owmby to victory, but with the score on 31 for 2 the heavens opened and the square was underwater, so the two teams called it a draw. Fantastic bowling and fielding from an Owmby side featuring seven under 16 players.
