LOCAL outsider Galley Slave became the talk of the Tatts at Market Rasen's races on Friday when it took an unlikely second place at 100-1 for trainer Michael Chapman.
Trained across the road at the Woodlands Stable, Galley Slave took advantage of clattering of timber at the last fence in the second race on the card.

Tobago Bay was a runaway winner but Galley, with no experince over hurdles, picked up a useful turn of speed on the flat to squeeze home in second place.

The feature race of the day, the Injured Jockeys Handicap Chase saw Tony McCoy really shake up Spirit of New York after a labouring first circuit.

The Jonjo O'Neill trained nine year old has shown himself to be a class performer in the past but was sluggish on his reappearance at Worcester last month, finishing 11th of 14. A repeat looked likely here until McCoy got to work!

From the moment he got his nose in front at the second last it was a struggle for the batting Mcevoy to keep up. McCoy backers got good value on the 5-1 return.

McCoy again showed his ability to sense the moment, bringing Akram home in the novices handicap hurdle.

Colorado's Gold took the opener for jockey Robert Thornton who looked odds on for a double in the last race but Film Festival sent off at 4-6 was upstaged by 20-1 shot Wizard of Oz.

The most exciting finish of the day came in the Willingham Woods Novices Handicap Chase.

Three runners set out for the line, stride for stride after the final fence with Brave Jo just seeing of Sycho Fred.

Seymour Weld won here for the second time in a month, the front runner making just about all to land at 15-2. He could now return for the Summer Plate on July 19 which will prove a much stiffer test, though the horse is clearly in cracking form under father and son trainers Charles and Adam Pogson from Newark.

Nettleton rider Oliver Williams got an early ride on Tom’s Party after turning from amateur to conditional status.

Racing again on Sunday, July 6; the first of seven races at 2.10pm .
