Caistor cricketers crushed
CAISTOR 1st XI suffered their fourth defeat of the season - on their home patch against visitors from Bourne.
It leaves them near the foot of the table, though newly promoted Haxey and also Sleaford have made similar bad starts to their Lincs ECB League campaigns.
Caistor took first strike and soon lost Peter Briggs for 6. The opener has found runs hard to come this season.
Aussie Marc Watkins held the innings together with a fluent 86, his first major score of the campaign. He received excellent support from young Harry Boulton who put together 32 defiant runs.
Experienced seamer and former Lincolnshire bowler David Christmas was the mainstay of the Bourne attack with 3 for 35 well supported by Stround with 3 for 52. Liam Wood added 23 late on as Caistor closed on 180 for 6 after their fifty overs.
Bourne’s reply was based around Fotheringham with 55 not out and support from Smith (23) and Dun (21).
Caistor’s attack lacked the services of the injured Paul Dimbleby but Scott Indian and James Rock toiled manfully and both took two wickets. The vital breakthrough would not come however and Bourne reached their target at 184 for 4 wickets after 30 overs.
Caistor will be pleased though with garnering some useful batting points, rather more than their rivals at the foot of the table were able to obtain.
* Young spinner Jamie Dyson (16) took five wickets for Caistor 2nd and veteran spinner Ernie Alliston four wickets as Caistor went down away to Cherry Willingham
Cherry Willingham hit 232 for nine (L Coupland 89, Dyson 5-90) and Caistor replied with 123 for nine (Priestley 5-45);
* Caistor 3rds were also out of sorts with the bat, being skittled for 62 by Scunthorpe Town 2nds who won comfortably. Caistor Town 3rds hit 58 leaving an easy target at 63 for three for the home side.
* This Saturday: Caistor 1st away to Market Deeping and Caistor 2nd host South Kelsey. On Sunday: Caistor 3rd host Grimsby Town 3rd XI.
