DURING their first three years at the Eddie Wright Raceway Scunthorpe Speedway have developed a reputation for ending the season in style and this year promoter Rob Godfrey is planning the best finale yet.
On top of a first class fireworks display he is in the process of building the strongest ever field to ride in the town. The individual meeting is set to include the Elite League’s David Howe along with a host of former Scorpions’ stars. Josh Auty, J
oe Haines, Andrew Tully and Tai Woffinden have all agreed to ride alongside the current Scorpions whilst further Elite League riders are expected to be added soon.
The meeting is set to take place on the Friday October 31 at the usual start time of 7.30pm.
Speaking about the meeting Godfrey admitted: “The meeting is quite an investment but last year’s meeting against Sheffield was the best of the season and I’m aiming for the same again this year. With the quality of racing on offer this season that is a big ask but it is what I’m aiming for. We have no speedway for five months and we want fans to go home on a high and be desperate to come back for more next spring.
“I’m absolutely delighted four of our former stars want to come back. All four are well thought of by the club and our fans, and it is no coincidence that none of them have guested against us this season. It will be great for our fans to see them do battle with the 2008 Scorpions and, whilst we can’t confirm some of the Elite League riders just yet, we plan on the rest of the field also being challengers for the title. It is great to have Wolverhampton heat-leader David Howe signed up. He was runner–up in the British Final and reserve in the British Grand Prix last year. It leaves us with four places in the sixteen rider field and as soon as we can confirm the names we will”.
With regards to the meeting name a final decision is expected in the next week or so. The club’s desire is to create a prestigious title that riders can compete for year after year.
