EDITOR – Unfortunately, many communities are losing their banking facilities, in some the last bank has decided to close for good and, in doing so, has taken the last cash machine with it.
What they don’t tell you is that around 80 per cent of all current account holders (including Co-op/Smile, Lloyds, TSB, Barclays, Cahoot, First Direct, Bank of Ireland, Clydesdale Bank, Halifax, Bank of Scotland and now the 19 million RBS and NatWest customers) can access their money free of charge at any of the 11,800 post offices across the country (some allow you to deposit cash, deposit cheques and get a balance).
For those without access to a car, an extra journey to the nearest town can be a huge chore, and to those who do have a car it is a large additional expense.
If your bank doesn’t offer facilities for you at the post office counter then why not tell them you will move if they cannot make it happen?
