Editor – I am writing to express my disappointment at the timing of the beacon lighting at Walesby Church Monday, June 4.
Myself and a number of friends went out of our way to attend the beacon lighting at 10pm, after a widely-advertised national campaign stating that they were to be lit across the country from 10-10.30pm.
So why did Walesby take the decision to light the beacon at least 45 minutes early, in broad daylight?
Many of us were walking up Walesby top in anticipation of the event, only to be told it was already over.
We went home utterly frustrated, contemplating whether to create a beacon in our own backyard as this would have been more visible in comparison to Walesby’s efforts past 10pm.
