Doctor’s loss so sad for village

EDITOR – So, as the headline read “Doctor calling time on 16 years at surgery” (Market Rasen Mail, Wednesday, February 15) as another man of great value is lost, only this time to a Wragby Surgery that needs doctors like Dr Whitbread as much as any other in the whole of England.

For try as he might over all these years to fight against the system, he couldn’t open the eyes or the ears of those at the Lincolnshire Primary Care Trust to his plans for a much-needed futuristic practice.

And with him banging his head no doubt against the wall for a number of years in the hope there would be a glimmer of light at the end of this long and stressful tunnel, he is hanging up his stethoscope in Wragby after retiring and heading out and planning on volunteering in Nepal and East Africa – where, no doubt, he will find a Primary Care Trust in that part of the world willing and everlastingly thankful to a man held in such high esteem and draped with experience that is second to none.
