Clarification - Fault lay in my enthusiasm

Thank you for running the picture (Middle Rasen store’s £10k grant, Market Rasen Mail, July 8).

I am sorry if I gave the impression of being critical of others who did not take up the offer of £10,000 – there were good reasons why they did not.

I fully accept that the fault was mine, due to my enthusiasm.

The offer was, as you correctly reported, for the last outlet standing in a community and, of course, the excellent shop in Middle Rasen ticked all the boxes.

Like most grants from local authorities, however, it was match-funded, so the proprietor had to contribute the same sum.

Obviously, this did not suit every outlet’s plans, while the time scale was also tight.

Despite funding cuts, I still hope Lincolnshire County Council can run this scheme at a future date. At the end of the day, it is all taxpayers’ money.
