EDITOR – I bought a retirement bungalow for my parents many years ago, saving West Lindsey thousands in social housing.
For tax purposes a nominal rent was recommended, essentially all related expenses.
The property has been vacant since last May and I am currently arranging its re-rental – as an owner, this property has always been a rental – I have been battling west Lindsey since.
They want to classify it as my second home and charge me tax for the vacant period when, in fact, it should be free for those six months.
I know they need the money. Who doesn’t? Is this the way to go?
Hope someone can help.
