The Rev John Carr, Rector of the Walesby group of parishes since 2001, has been installed as a Canon of Lincoln Cathedral, to the seat of Milton Manor with Binbrook.

Canon Carr’s collation and installation took place on the Feast of St Hugh. The service was led by the Dean of Lincoln, the Very Rev Dr Philip Buckler, and the installation carried out by the Bishop of Lincoln, the Rt Rev Christopher Lowson.

The installation means Canon Carr will have his own seat in the cathedral and be expected to preach there occasionally.

“I feel thrilled and humbled and very honoured to be nominated in this way,” said Canon Carr, pictured above centre right. “Thanks go to all the congregations in the Walesby group for support over the last 14 years.”

Canon Carr served in the Merchant Navy and then in the London Ambulance Service before training for the ministry.

He served in Hackney before coming to Walesby.

The Walesby group includes the parishes of Brookenby, Claxby, Kirmond-le-Mire, Normanby le Wold, North Willingham, Stainton le Vale, Tealby and Walesby. More recently, he was also chaplain to the parishes of Nettleton, Croxby and Thoresway.

“John has worked tirelessly for the good of the Walesby group and in the wider deanery. This honour is richly deserved,” said the Rev Canon Ian Robinson, Rural Dean of West Wold.
