What’s happening in Wragby and Binbrook

Wragby

Swimming Club - The autumn jumble sale in aid of Wragby and District Swimming Club will be held in the town hall on Saturday, October 19, from 2pm.

Community Gardeners - There was a good attendance of members old and new to the annual general meeting of the Wragby Community Gardening Club.

Looking back on a second successful year for the club, Edith Nash, presiding, thanked everyone for their support, with particular thanks to the members of the committee for their effort and contribution to ensure everything ran smoothly.

There had been a varied and interesting range of talks and demonstrations at the monthly meetings and the annual spring show had again been most successful.

Carole Watts was thanked for her efforts in arranging the coach outings which were a highlight of the programme, and reference was made to the move from the fire service building to their new base in the town hall, which provided the extra space needed to accommodate the increasing number of new members.
Club secretary Pat Hickey outlined the plans for the coming year, when again a full programme has been arranged for members to look forward to.

There is a wide range of speakers for the indoor meetings and, during the summer months, there will again be visits to two local gardens and two coach trips.

Members were asked to make their choice from four suggestions for the trips and those receiving most votes were Wentworth Walled Garden and Nostell Priory, which will be visited on June 14, and the Harrogate Autumn Flower Show for the September 14 outing.

Committee members were all re-elected for a further year and a fun gardening quiz, won by Sarah Bellhouse’s table, rounded off the evening.

New councillor - The parish council now has a full complement of nine councillors following the co-option of Philip Roper at the recent meeting.

Also at the meeting, Coun Julie Thacker volunteered to serve as the parish council representative on the Wragby Community Group.

Binbrook

Go along between 12 noon and 2pm.

Garden Club - The next meeting of the club will be held in the Reading Room on Wednesday, October 16, at 7.30pm, when plans will be made for the coming year’s programme of meetings and outings.
